P&S Award Selection Criteria Example (for the Excellence
Award)
Instructions to Nominate:
The Professional
and Scientific Excellence Award recognizes and honors professional
and scientific staff members who have been employed by Iowa
State University for at least ten years and who have achieved
excellence in their respective fields. Three $1,500 awards
are presented annually with grants from the ISU Foundation.
Submit a maximum of three letters
of endorsement, including at least one letter from an individual
outside the nominee's department and a letter of comment from
a supervisor. Include a paragraph about the nominee to be used
in the awards program at the Convocation. Since the following
criteria are used when reviewing the nominations, it is important
to attach supportive information (if applicable) and to include
dates when possible.
- Professional contributions/service within the university
(to the university, department or unit, other departments or
units, and the P&S system)
- Professional organizations and positions held
- Evidence of career progress (promotions and educational advancements)
- Professional recognitions/contributions beyond the university
(community, state, regional, national, international, committees,
publications, and recognitions)
- List of publications, papers, and patents
- Nominee's resume or vita
