CYtation Award Winners

Eight new Professional and Scientifc CYtation winners have been selected by the Awards Committee of the P&S Council.  They were honored in a ceremony including President Geoffrey and P&S Council President Cathy Good on January 19th.  Those who were honored are:

Karen Bovenmyer - Program Assistant, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT): In recognition of the implementation of new initiatives and increased graduate student participation in teaching and learning events. Karen has held workshops such as Balancing Teaching and your Graduate Career and Going on the Academic Job Market that have some of the best attendance of CELT events thus far. She has also facilitated a teaching and learning circle on McKeachie's 2006 Teaching Tips , redesigned the webpage for PFF, and worked with the Graduate Student Senate to develop an improved procedure for selection of graduate students to attend the Wakonse teaching conference with ISU faculty.

Adam Foley - Hall Director of Birch-Welch-Roberts Halls: In recognition of his innovative ways to improve existing procedures and developing new initiatives. He has developed a student contact database, revamped a hall Director recruiting website, created an online community Advisor application process, developed an online training evaluation, and implemented a student staff recognition committee. His technical skills are especially valued by the staff in the Department of Residence.

Cindy Frederickson - Senior Academic Advisor in Health & Human Performance (HHP): In recognition of her achievements as an advisor contributor to the Department of Health & Human Performance. She has become the advising expert for HHP students traveling abroad, and chairs the HHP Awards Committee where she organizes and administrates all aspects of the undergraduate awards, updates web pages, and organizes the annual awards banquet. Also, she chaired the subcommittee of the University Academic Advising Committee (UAAC) whose goal was to complete a campus wide survey of advisors. The survey results will have a major impact on academic advising and the undergraduate experience at ISU.

Gloria A. Hill - Administrative Specialist, Engineering Administration: In recognition of orchestrating a successful accreditation visit in the College of Engineering . She provided administrative support to college leadership and to the planning group while ten academic undergraduate programs in the College of Engineering were evaluated. To assist, she coordinated Deans Office communications with ABET and the visit team chair and also coordinated preparation logistics with individual academic departments, the Student Learning Task Force and COE Director of Assessment, and college units.

Kathryn H. Kuehl - Program Coordinator for Admissions, College of Veterinary Medicine: In recognition of her exemplary service, creativity, and hard work. She communicates daily with prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students, sets the agenda, serves as the recording secretary, and conducts research for the Admission's Committee. On top of this, she developed and implemented an online veterinary application and evaluations system that has simplified the application process for students and the evaluation process for the Admission's Committee. She has become indispensable to the College of Veterinary medicine .
Nominator: Donald D. Draper

Anthony Moore - Academic Advisor in Electrical and Computer Engineering: In recognition of the responsibility he has taken for three critical projects within the department. This year he has worked with the Associate Chair to prepare for the ABET visit and taken a lead role in the new student communication medium. Here he established a process for continual upgrade of information and created templates for all department members. He also become even more valuable to the department by editing the ECpE Undergraduate website.
Nominator: Vicky Thorland-Oster

Carol Petersen - Assistant Director for ISU Dining: In recognition of her instrumental role in keeping ISU Dining on campus to serve the ISU community. She worked hard to compose the ISU Dining's Request for Proposal in response to the RFP to outsource campus dining services on top of coordinating ISU Dining's serves to the Odyssey of the Mind and Special Olympics National Games 2006 summer conferences. Her determination and leadership aided in ISU Dining winning the bid, and securing 35 P & S staff positions.
Nominator: Erica Beirman

Judith Strand - Coordinator of Graduate Programs, Economics: In recognition of her role in providing information about professional careers in economics for the PhD students. She has organized seminars and workshops, including a symposium with speakers from academia and industry, to help female graduate students better understand the job market. Also, she wrote proposals to ISU's Women's Enrichment MiniGrant Program, the College of Agriculture 's F. Wendell Miller Lecture Funds, and the University Lecture Series at ISU while additionally contacting women speakers who are top professionals in their fields to provide seminars. Her self-initiated effort on behalf of women in economics has moved the economics department in a positive direction.

This group of honorees was selected from nominations reviewed in December. The deadline for the next Cytation Awards submission is April 1.
