P&S Constitutional Amendments Proposed

On July 19, 2004, P&S staff will have the opportunity to vote electronically on amendments to Articles X, XV, and XVI of the Constitution of the Professional and Scientific Council of Iowa State University.

Please review the proposed amendments, described below. If you have questions, contact a council representative.

You'll receive details about electronic voting shortly before July 19.

Summary of changes:

Article X: Changes will allow candidates in council elections to run unopposed for representative positions. (Currently, if there is not at least one more candidate for each area of representation than the number of vacancies in that area, the election committee must recruit additional candidates.)
Article XV: Changes the maximum time between P&S Council meetings from 60 to 75 days. (The Council does not meet in July, and sometimes it's difficult to schedule the August meeting within 60 days of the June meeting.)
Article XVI: Changes the current vice president and president system to a president-elect to president succession system. (The succession system will give the president-elect a year to learn about, and more thoroughly prepare to assume, the president's responsibilities.)
