P&S COUNCIL NEWS
January 9, 2006

Teri Peterson Chosen Council President-Elect
Teri Peterson, administrative specialist in the Office of Biotechnology, has been chosen president-elect of the P&S Council. She will assume that office in June when the current president-elect, Cathy Good, becomes president of the Council.
Peterson was elected at the January 5 meeting of the Council. The timing of her selection allows her to be involved in the transition as the council reorganizes for the year beginning on July 1.

The president-elect is one of five voting members of the P&S Executive Committee. Others are the president, the secretary, and two at-large committee members. The secretary and at-large members will be voted on at the May meeting and also installed in June.

Additional information on Teri Peterson is available at http://www.pscouncil.iastate.edu/2006Candidates/peterson.html

Thirteen Seats Open in Council Election
ISU P&S staff will have the opportunity to vote for 13 members of the 35-member P&S Council during annual elections to be conducted in March.

Openings announced at the January meeting of the Council include seven in the Academic and Research representation area, two in the Student Affairs area, and one each in Business and Finance, Extension, External Affairs and IPRT/Ames Lab.
Seats are apportioned at the rate of one seat for every 75 P&S employees in each of the six areas. Most terms are for three years, with some exceptions due to resignations. Approximately one third of the Council is elected each year.

Additional information on candidates and voting deadlines will be posted on the P&S Web Site as it becomes available: http://www.pscouncil.iastate.edu/homepage.html

CYtation Award Recipients To Be Honored Jan. 20
Eight ISU P&S staff members will be honored Jan. 20 with CYtation Awards. These awards recognize P&S Staff who have performed above and beyond the call of duty, done something extraordinarily well, or acted in such a way as to make a very real difference at Iowa State University. The work has to have been completed within the past twelve months of the nomination.
The latest honorees will be presented the award by University President Geoffrey as well as Professional and Scientific Council President Dan Woodin. These recipients were selected from more than 20 nominations submitted to the P&S Council Awards Committee in advance of the Dec. 1 deadline.

The next nomination deadline is April 1. More information about the CYtation award is available at http://www.pscouncil.iastate.edu/CYtation.html

Personal Statements of Employee Benefits Now Available
A Personal Statement of Benefits listing the dollar value of benefits ISU employees receive as part of their compensation package became available online in mid-December.

Carla Espinoza, associate vice president for human resources, credited persistent P&S Council requests for helping to bring back the statement which was distributed on paper until a few years ago. She said more than a year of planning, programming and prioritizing went into development. The statement is a summary of benefits paid over the last year and is based on information as of the November payroll. This benefits summary is accessible through AccessPlus.

1. Login to AccessPlus
2. Select the Employee tab
3. Select Benefits Info along the left side of the screen
4. Select Personal Statement of Benefits
5. Enjoy the rewards of the Council's persistence.

New Council Member
Pam Owenson, administrative specialist in Agricultural Education and Studies, has been appointed to the P&S Council representing Academic and Research staff. She will complete the term of Sue Ellen Tuttle whose university position in the Human Sciences College was recently eliminated. Owenson's appointment by Council President Dan Woodin was approved at the January meeting of the Council and is effective until the June meeting when an elected replacement will be installed.

A second vacancy on the council caused by the resignation of Student Affairs representative Bonnie Whalen will be filled by appointment at the February Council meeting. Whalen also served as an at-large member of the Council Executive Committee and an election will be held to fill that opening.
