New Council Member Appointed
Karla Mae Elling, an administrative specialist in the Records and
Registration Office, has been appointed to the P&S Council
to
represent Student Affairs staff. She will serve until June 30,
replacing Bonnie Whalen who resigned from the seat because of
other commitments. Elling was appointed by P&S Council President
Dan Woodin
and her appointment was confirmed by the Council at its Feb. 2
meeting. A permanent replacement for Whalen will be chosen in
the P&S
election in March.
Malisa Rader Elected to P&S Executive
Committee
Malisa Rader, a member of the P&S Council representing Academic
and
Research Staff since 2004, has been elected to an at-large seat
on
the Council's Executive Committee. She was chosen at the Council's
Feb. 2 meeting to replace Bonnie Whalen who had resigned from the
Council. She will serve until new officers are installed at the
Council's June meeting.
The five voting members of the Council's
executive committee include the president, president-elect, secretary,
and two at-large members. The committee conducts monthly meetings,
also attended by the chairs of the Council's standing committees.
Rader has served as chair of
the Representation Committee for the past two years.
Get a Life -- Theme for P&S
Professional Development Day on March 28
Mark your calendar and plan to attend P&S Professional Development
Day on March 28. Registration for the conference should be up by
Feb.
20. This year's theme "Get a Life" will be presented
by keynote
speaker Pat Hurley, who uses a humor-based top ten list on how
to
deal with stress. For 31 years, Hurley has crisscrossed the country
bringing his gentle brand of humorous motivation to more than six
million students, teachers and parents. He was a comedian on ABC
television for three years and won three Emmy awards. The $75
registration fee will include lunch and three breakout sessions
on a
variety of topics. The conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends
at
3:15 p.m.
Standing Committee Volunteers Recognized
Certificates of appreciation
were presented to several non-council members of the P&S Council's
standing committees at the Council's Feb. 2 meeting. Those honored
included Don Chrusciel, Mark Clarridge, Julie Larson and Judy Strand
on the Awards Committee; Felice Iasevoli
and Trevor Riedemann on the Compensation and Benefits Committee;
Doug
Beck and Don Paulsen on the Peer Advisory Committee; Pam Owenson,
Josie Six and Pat Strah on the Policies and Procedures committee;
Janet Ross on the Representation Committee; and Catherine Hunt
and
Marie Mayer on the Retention and Recruitment Committee.
Membership
on the Council's standing committees is open to all
interested P&S staff. Applications are accepted by the Representation
Committee at the beginning of each academic year.
P&S Council Nominations Due Feb. 17
Nomination forms are beginning to trickle in for the thirteen seats
on the ISU P&S Council that will be filled in an online election
in
March. The filing deadline to be listed on the ballot is 5 p.m.
on
Friday, Feb. 17.
You are encouraged to nominate yourself or someone
that you think would make a good representative of you and your
fellow employees on
the council. A nomination form and additional information about
serving on the council are available online at

Open Forum March 2
The university budget for fiscal year 2007 is the topic for an
Open Forum at the March 2 Council meeting. Ellen Rasmussen, assistant
to the provost, and Mark Chidister, assistant to the president,
will lead the discussion at the forum from 12 to 1 p.m. in the
Memorial Union Gallery.
Lunch with the Regents
Members of the P&S Council's executive committee and chairs
of the
Council's standing committees attended lunch with members of the
Iowa
Board of Regents when the Regents met in Ames on Feb. 1. The informal
luncheon gave P&S staff the opportunity for one-on-one conversations
with the Regents about goals of the Council.
