MINIMUM SALARY INCREASE OF 2.4 PERCENT PROPOSED FOR P&S STAFF
A recommendation that ISU tie next year's salary increases for P&S staff to the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was presented to the P&S Council at its February meeting.
Drafted by the Council's Compensation and Benefits Committee, the proposal notes that the Midwest Region Urban CPI increased by 2.44 percent last year, as calculated by the United State Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. The committee recommends that the P&S pay matrix be advanced by 2.44 percent at all levels next year and that all employees who receive a satisfactory performance rating should receive a minimum salary increase of 2.44 percent. Additional funds available beyond that level for salaries should be distributed based on merit.
A recommendation that the Council's report on salaries be forwarded to university administrators was introduced at the Council meeting on Feb. 1. A final vote is scheduled for the Council's next meeting on March 1 at 2 p.m. in the Campanile Room at the Memorial Union.
The recommendations are available online at

PRESIDENT ELECT POSITIONS ANNOUNCED
Due to the recent resignation of Teresa Peterson, the 2006-2007 President-elect, a special election was held during the January council meeting. Dan Woodin was elected by the council to complete Teresa's term. At the same meeting, the council elected Lynne Mumm for the 2007-2008 President-elect position. Thanks go out to both of these people for the willingness to serve the Professional and Scientific community.
NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS APPOINTED
Judy Strand, a program coordinator in the department of economics, has been appointed to fill out the remainder of Lynette Edsall's term. Judy previously served two terms on the council representing Academic and Research staff. Also, because of Dan Woodin's election to the president-elect position, Kevin Houlette, an accountant in the Controller's office, was appointed to complete Dan's term on council representing Business and Finance staff. Judy and Kevin were nominated by President Cathy Good and were confirmed by the council during the regular February meeting.
