March 31, 2006

Ten New Members Elected to P&S Council Seats

Ten new members will be seated on the P&S Council at the Council's annual reorganization meeting in June, as the result of elections completed on March 24. Three incumbent members of the council also will begin new three-year terms at the June meeting.

The 13 successful candidates were among 18 P&S staff members who sought seats in six representation areas. They will join 22 carry-over council members who are in the second or third year of their terms.

New council members representing Academic and Research staff are Ann Bugler, Jason Follett, Shirley Huck and Brent Swanson, all elected for three-year terms; and Lynette Edsall, elected for a two-year term. Incumbents who will begin new three-year terms as A&R representatives are Christine Gemignani and Pam Owenson.

Business and Finance voters elected Dan Woodin to a new three-year term on the Council. Woodin is currently serving as president of the Council, and will assume the office of past president as he begins his new Council term.

Karla Mae Elling, who was appointed to complete an unexpired term on the council this year, was elected to a full term representing Student Affairs staff. Other new members of the Council who will take office in June are Andrew Alt representing Student Affairs, Brenda Schmitt representing Extension, Victor Miller representing External Affairs, and Kerry Gibson representing IPRT/Ames Lab.

The P&S election was conducted online March 1-24. About 2,300 P&S staffers were eligible to vote, with total turnout at just under 15 percent.
