Open Forum Friday, May 5, Features R&R Grant Recipients

Highlights of five student retention and recruitment programs will be featured at a Professional and Scientific Council Open Forum on Friday, May 5.

The Open Forum is from noon to 1 p.m. in the Pioneer Room at the Memorial Union. A round table discussion format is planned, with participants invited to move from table to table for discussions of each of the programs. Refreshments will be served beginning at 11:45 a.m. and those attending also will be eligible for door prizes.

Friday's presenters and their topics are:

P&S Retention and Recruitment Grant Call for Proposals Released

P & S RETENTION AND RECRUITMENT GRANT CALL FOR PROPOSALS RELEASED

The 2006 P&S Retention and Recruitment Grant program will begin Friday with the announcement of the call for proposals for next year's grants. Funding for the program has been increased by the President's office to $45,000 for next year. Grant applications will be due June 19 and recipients will be announced July 28. CYtation Award Winners to be Honored May 12

The Professional and Scientific Awards Committee members have selected the spring 2006 CYtation awardees. These persons were nominated for performing above and beyond the call of duty, and/or doing something extraordinarily well, or acting in such a way as to make a very real difference in the institution. The nomination had to be for work done within the past year. The winners will be honored in a recognition ceremony in the President's Office on May 12. In addition to a certificate signed by President Gregory Geoffroy and Council President Dan Woodin, the winners receive a one year family membership compliments of Reiman Gardens.

New Award to Recognize Best Awards Program for P&S Staff

A new one-time award honoring the best college or department / unit awards program on the ISU campus will be presented next fall by the P&S Council Awards Committee. The special award, which was approved by the P&S Council at its  meeting on April 5, will be the focal point of an Open Forum on  awards procedures used by campus committees in recognizing   outstanding performance by P&S Staff. The forum will include
presentations by invited members of campus awards committees on their  best practices.

The deadline for nominations for the new award is June 15. The group  selected for the honor will be notified in mid-August, and the open  forum will be scheduled in early fall. More information is available  online at http://www.pscouncil.iastate.edu/Awards.html

P&S Salary Recommendations are May 5 Topic

The P&S Council will discuss proposed recommendations to ISU
administrators for FY07 salary increases and movement of the pay matrix at the May 5 Council meeting. Meetings are open to anyone interested in attending to hear the discussion. The meeting is scheduled in the Gallery, Memorial Union at 2 p.m. If you'd like to share your thoughts on this topic, please contact
one of your area representatives.

Council to Elect 2006-07 Officers

Members of the P&S Council will elect a secretary and two at-large members of the Council Executive Committee at the council meeting on May 5.

Those elected will be installed at the Council's June meeting, along with Cathy Good, incoming President, and Teri Peterson, incoming President-Elect. These five elected officers serve one-year terms.

The Executive Committee meets monthly to transact Council business between the regular meetings of the Council. In addition to the elected officers, chairs of the Council's standing committees attend the Executive Committee meetings as non-voting participants.

Council members who have agreed to stand for election as officers include Malisa Rader, Camille Sloan Schroeder and Brenda Van Beek for At-Large Executive Committee Member and Lynne Mumm for Secretary.
