University Councils and Committees
Transportation Advisory Council
Randy Larabee, 294-2716
Committee Meeting Date: March 6, 2006
Major agenda items discussed/committee action taken:
- Presentation by Bob Bourne from CyRide on the condition,
operation and planned changes for the bus system. Rider ship
is down primarily due to a lower student population on campus.
This has affected the available GSB funding provided to CyRide.
One other change being considered is ending the free boarding
of single digit routes on campus (i.e. Red, Green, Blue, Brown,
and Purple routes). The double digit routes (Orange, Gray,
Gold and Cardinal) would remain free to any user. No action
taken by Council.
- Information was distributed related to State, City and Iowa
State University laws and rules related to Pedestrians' rights
and duties for discussion at the next meeting.
- Information was distributed related to vehicle and pedestrian
counts completed by Parking systems at the traffic gates on
Osborn and Bissell road between Howe and Hoover Hall for discussion
at the next meeting.
Potential impact on P&S employees: The
Council’s primary function is to serve as a channel
for the expression of user-group opinions and preferences on
matters pertaining to the movement of people and vehicles to,
from, and around campus. The Council considers issues submitted
to it from outside, initiates studies, and develop policy recommendations
on transportation for the central administration. These
shall include but are not limited to parking, streets, traffic
signals, public transportation, bikeways, and facilities for
commuters, pedestrian walkways, and traffic safety. The Council
recommends changes to annual parking rates, fines and fees associated
with parking tickets and revisions to the Parking Division Rules
and Regulations Manual.
