ISU Benefit Spotlight: Workers' Compensation

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you are injured while at work?  Workers' Compensation is a program that helps to provide assistance to employees who qualify for its benefits.  By definition, Workers' Compensation is "...designed to provide certain benefits to employees who sustain injuries, occupational illnesses, or occupational hearing loss arising out and and in the course of their employment."

If you are injured while at work, your first step should always be to seek medical care, as needed.  After you have received immediate medical assistance, you will need to report the incident through the "First Report of Injury" portal on the University Human Resources website.

The portal, as well as additional information about Workers' Compensation (including an FAQ) is available on the University Human Resources website.

New Lactation Spaces Open on Campus

Beginning this spring semester, Iowa State University announced the opening of two new lactation spaces in 365 Heady Hall and W0061 Lagomarcino Hall.  These new spaces are an example of Iowa State University's commitment to support the needs of nursing mothers on campus.  These rooms serve as a resource and are available to the Iowa State University community, as well as visitors.

Last spring, a committee of employees from the Professional and Scientific Council, University Human Resources (UHR) and Facilities Planning and Management (FPM), spearheaded a coordinated effort to enhance the number of lactation spaces around campus.   These new spaces are a direct result of the work that was completed last year.

The addition of lactation rooms on campus makes campus a more inclusive environment, and the Professional and Scientific Council is dedicated to continue to advocate for the needs of nursing mothers.

Council Meeting Date Change

The final meeting of the Professional and Scientific Council for the 2017 fiscal year will be held on Thursday, May 25 at 2:10 p.m.  This is a change from its originally scheduled date (June 1) to better accommodate anyone involved with New Student Orientation.
