Hello! My name is Valyn Bodensteiner. I’m a Communications Specialist through the Office of the Vice President for Research and have been a P&S employee at Iowa State University for a little over a year now. I’m an AMA Professional Certified Marketer (PCM) with 6 years of experience in strategic communications, content marketing, website management, and digital media.

Recently, as part of the ISU Cardinal Women program, I was asked to think about who I would be if I were brave enough to show up as my true self. Part of my response to that question is becoming more involved with activities on campus to build out my network. Participating in campus activities also gives me the opportunity to empower my colleagues.

My supervisor, Kristen Obbink, supports me in this endeavor and had this to say about me: “Valyn continues to be a skilled, knowledgeable, and resourceful team member. Her expertise and guidance in project management, strategic planning, and marketing and communications continue to be invaluable. She is ambitious, has a learner mindset, and is always challenging herself to grow her knowledge base and skillset in key areas.”

I’m interested in serving on the Professional and Scientific Council because I want to play a role in influencing change throughout ISU. As someone who is relatively new to the area and early on in their career, this experience would positively impact me by continuing to develop my skills and abilities on both a personal and professional level.
