
Mike Otis, Associate Director of Human Resource Services at ISU, discussed the university's 2010 employee benefit plans and took questions at the P&S Council Open Forum on Nov. 11.The presentation by Otis was scheduled during the Nov. 2-20 Open Enrollment period for ISU faculty and P&S staff who want to make changes in their benefits plans for 2010. Results of the Professional and Scientific staff survey, conducted online Oct. 22 and 23, were delivered to ISU President Gregory Geoffroy and Provost Elizabeth Hoffman, Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. The survey was developed by the P&S Council Executive Committee to gather information on dealing with ISU's budget reversion in advance of the Board of Regents meeting scheduled Oct. 29.
Of the 2,584 P&S staff employed at ISU, 2,339 were e-mailed an invitation to take the survey (245 had previously opted out of the survey system*) and 1,517 completed the confidential survey for a final response rate of 64.9 percent. The final report contained 1,203 individual comments that were passed on to the President and Provost.
Camille Schroeder, President, ISU Professional & Scientific Council, has been asked to speak at the Oct. 29 Board of Regents meeting on behalf of the P&S Council. Her focus will be on presenting the survey results. A summary of the survey results can be viewed here.

In a special session Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 13, members of the P&S Council adopted two motions dealing with University budget issues. The Council voted 38-4 to recommend that the University allow P&S Staff furloughs as a budget planning option (see background statement), and voted 39-0 to ask administrators to make a decision soon on whether the Retirement Incentive Option offered in 2009 will be continued next year.
